At 02:00 hours on August 25, 2009 the Newark Fire Department was
dispatched
to an automatic alarm at Old Worlds Apartments. While fighting the fire
Dan and Mike
discovered a man slumped over a TV stand, they managed to get the badly
burned person
out, he was taken to a safe area and treated by EMS crews for
air-lift to Strong Memorial
Hospital. This was the last time they saw this person who was
badly burned, who also
has undergone multiple skin grafts and still has a long road to
recovery.
Another life saved.

At 03: 15 hours on September 1, 2008 the Newark Fire Department was
dispatched to an automatic alarm at the Armstrong Senior Living Center
on East Maple Avenue. Among the first to arrive were Newark's 1st
Lieutenant Ken Graf and Newark Police Department Sergeant Doug Keyton.
They entered the building where smoke conditions were quickly
deteriorating and they encountered a burn victim who had collapsed while
fleeing the fire in her unit. The elderly woman was pulled to a safe
area and treated by EMS crews. In spite of the threat to their
lives, they entered a dangerous condition to save another life.
